Test the padding of your workout bench by pressing on the cushion before beginning your workout. If you can easily feel the wood underneath the padding, you should select a different machine. Insufficient padding on a machine that you use to work out can cause bruising due to a lack of adequate support.

To increase muscle mass, try doing a larger number of reps at a lighter weight. This works better than fewer reps at a heavier weight. Muscle mass involves length of endurance without the loss of strength rather that how much you can lift. This is the preferred training for many weight lifters.
